Wildlife Victoria’s activity during the Victorian bushfires

Wildlife Victoria are currently working with the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and local wildlife rescue groups in various fire affected areas around Victoria. These areas are still considered fire-grounds however in some situations, DSE have allowed wildlife volunteers to accompany them on searches through burnt out areas in the hope of locating injured wildlife. Reports from these volunteers suggest that most of their work has been about humane euthanasia and a small number of animals have been retrieved and placed in the care of local wildlife shelters. It is a very upsetting and distressing situation, however the focus is to relieve the pain and suffering that our wildlife are currently enduring. The amazing volunteers are doing a tough job.

If any Victorians find any sick, injured or orphaned wildlife in Victoria, please call 13 000 94535.
